Inspiration for starting Dasaan came from the challenges faced by one of our Dentist clients. She has a thriving dental practice but most of the time one of the three dental chair is down for maintenance. Her struggle is enormous, and her center manager spends considerable amount of time in coordinating with the Bio Medical Engineer (BME) and the distributor for spare parts.
Imagine! this chair is an asset that generates revenue for her center, and 33% of her assets are always down. In addition, the manpower is busy in coordinating with the Bio Medical Engineer (BME) and OEMs, instead of taking care of the patients. Their other challenge was that BME always comes during the peak operational hours, and it disturbs the entire Clinic operation. Needless to mention that the service provider holds them at ransoms and charges any amount of money without providing any warranty on parts replaced.
We as a team, started questioning the challenge faced by our client. We then decided to do some dipstick study and met key stakeholders across region, and different type of healthcare service providers. We found that the problem is widespread, and it gets worse as you start moving from metros to tier 2, 3 cities

During our research we realized that even more important aspect of medical equipment management is calibration, which is rarely done accurately across the spectrum. Interestingly the service provider charges more for actual (physical) calibration of medical equipment than issuing certificate over the mail (fake certificate). After getting this insight, we realized that its business venture with an objective of improving the standard healthcare service delivery in India. Our core objective is to help the healthcare warriors in taking care of patients and saving lives, rather than continuously calling the BMEs for repair of medical equipment.
